Wallace State Fine and Performing Arts presents ArtsKids! programs

HANCEVILLE - The Wallace State Community College Fine and Performing Arts department announces its new ArtsKids program for area students in grades 3-8. The first session, SingKids! will be held during Fall 2017 semester.

“ArtsKids is a new outreach program offered through our Fine and Performing Arts programs to give area students an introduction to performance and studio arts,” said Lauren Cantrell Salerno, head of the college’s Theatre department. “This fall will focus on singing and dancing with SingKids! In the spring, we will have options for students interested in theater and studio arts with BroadwayKids! and StudioKids!”

At the end of each session, the students in SingKids! and BroadwayKids! will get to show off what they’ve learned in a performance, and the StudioKids! participants will display their artwork at an art exhibition.

SingKids! gives students the opportunity to hone their vocal and dancing skills through participation in a miniature version of the Wallace State Singers music review group. The ensemble meets weekly in the fall, and performs at the Wallace State Music Department Christmas Concert.

SingKids! will be held each Wednesday (except Nov. 22) Sept. 13 through Dec. 6, from 3:45-4:45 p.m. There is a limit of 30 students, and the cost is $150.

BroadwayKids! meets weekly in the spring to rehearse and perform a musical theatre production. Through work on the play, students enhance their acting, singing, and dancing skills. The final production is performed for an audience at the end of the semester.  This year, the production is Annie, Jr!

BroadwayKids! will be held each Wednesday (except March 14 and 28) from Jan. 10 through May 2, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. There is a limit of 40 students, and the cost is $150.

StudioKids! immerses students in studio visual art making experiences through drawing, painting, sculpture and graphic design course projects. The full course culminates in a student exhibition at the end of the term

StudioKids! will be held each Tuesday (except March 27) from Jan. 10 through May 2, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. There is a limit of 20 students, and the cost is $150.
