Fairview falls in last region game of the year

SPRINGVILLE - The last region game of the year didn't go the way the Fairview Aggies envisioned it, as they fell to the Springville Tigers, 24-0.

Fairview fought hard the entire game, looking for its first win in the region, but the Aggies finished 5A Region 7 play with a 0-6 record.

The first quarter Friday night was played to a stalemate, ending with no score.

It wasn't until late in the second when the scoreboard finally lit up with points. Following a big rush of 18 yards by Troy Vance and a 27-yard pass from Austin Hutcheson to Robbie Riley, kicker Ross Stanford booted through a 30-yard field goal to give the Springville Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Following the third Fairview punt on the night, Springville got in the end zone with help from a questionable penalty that moved the ball all the way down to the Aggies’ 23. From there Hutcheson found Jace Hayes for the 23-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the Tigers extended their lead to 10-0 with 43 seconds left to go in the half.

After swapping punts with the Aggies, Springville took over on its own 20. The Tigers moved the ball down the field with help from a pass interference call to set the ball up first-and-10 from their own 47. On the very next play from scrimmage, Hutcheson called his own number and raced 47 yards to the end zone. The PAT made the score 17-0 with 3:24 to go in the third.

Springville scored for the final time in the fourth on a 46-yard touchdown run by Vance. This made the score 24-0 after the PAT and that is where the score stayed as Springville cruised to victory.

George Redding's Fairview Aggies gave it everything they had, played their hearts out and left it all on the gridiron. They will finish the season with the "cross-creek" rivalry when they welcome the Holly Pond Broncos to town for the last game of the 2017 regular season next week.
