AHSAA ALL-STARS: Addison, Cold Springs, Cullman, St. Bernard athletes make North rosters

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – North-South all-star squads for the upcoming 60th AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association) North-South All-Star Football Game were announced this week by the AHSAA, The two 37-member teams, comprised of 2019 graduating seniors, were announced by Jamie Lee, director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA). The annual North-South All-Star Football Game is set for July 18 at 7 p.m. at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. A local football coach, Cullman’s Oscar Glasscock, also earned a spot as an assistant coach on the North All-Star team’s staff.

The AHSADCA, which operates under the auspices of the AHSAA will also host all-star games in baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, volleyball, and boys’ and girls’ cross country during All-Star Week July 16-20, 2019.

Six local athletes were selected to rosters in their respective varsity sports.

Addison

Savannah Manley and Hayden Ray were named to this year’s North All-Star Volleyball and Football teams, respectively, after they each put together stellar performances in 2018. Manley, a junior mid hitter, helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to their sixth-straight state championship in November and was named MVP of the Class 2A State Volleyball Tournament. Ray was selected to the North All-Star Football Team at center after earning First-Team All-State honors and helping lead Addison to the quarterfinals of the AHSAA State Football Playoffs. The North-South All-Star Football Game is scheduled for July 18 at 7 p.m. at the Cramton Bowl, but a date and time for the North-South All-Star Volleyball Game being held at Auburn University at Montgomery have not been determined.

Cold Springs

Eagles Cross-Country runner Cole Akridge earned a spot on this year’s North All-Star Cross-Country Team after not only a great individual season, but a great season for Cold Springs as well. The junior helped lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish at last year’s AHSAA State Cross-Country Meet and earned All-State recognition as well. A date and time for the North-South All-Star Race being held at Auburn University at Montgomery have not been determined.

Cullman

Two more local cross-country runners were selected to North All-Star teams, Cullman’s Will Thompson and Della Kelly. Thompson helped the Bearcats finish as runners-up at last year’s AHSAA State Cross-Country Meet and Kelly was critical to the Lady Bearcats’ sixth-place finish at the state meet. Both Thompson and Kelly earned All-State honors as well. A date and time for the North-South All-Star Races being held at Auburn University at Montgomery have not been determined.

St. Bernard

Caleb Guthery, a junior from St. Bernard, earned a spot on this year’s North All-Star Cross-Country team after a big 2018 season. Guthery was selected to last year’s All-State Cross-Country Team and helped the Saints post a third-place finish at the AHSAA State Cross-Country Meet. A date and time for the North-South All-Star Race being held at Auburn University at Montgomery have not been determined.
