HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The 24th Annual Hanceville Antique Tractor and Engine Show was held on Saturday under the bright sun at Wallace State Community College.

The event kicked off with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Following the show of patriotism, the fun began with the farm harvesters.

Organizer Charles Allen shared, “We’ve got a big crowd. We’ve got people from as far away as Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and the good Harley Marsh homemade ice cream. We’ve got a crowd of good people. We just want to thank the good Lord for the weather after we had so much rain this past week. Everything is going great today.”

It was truly a day of family fun for the Allen family. Joining Mr. Allen were some of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several of whom reside in Hanceville.

Farmers and equipment aficionados examined dozens of John Deere, Farmall and other tractors learning about the specific farm equipment and their history. Many fathers and grandfathers took the opportunity to teach their little ones about the history of agriculture and the tractors and engines.

Pedal races were held with fierce young competitors wheeling their miniature tractors to the finish line. For the grown competitors, tractors were manned for the slow races, with the winners going to the adults were made it to the wire in the longest time without killing the engine, a difficult feat for many. The skillet tossing contest tested the flingers’ biceps and showed who was top dog in the cast iron world.

Many movers and shakers from the Hanceville area were in attendance including members of the Hanceville City Council, Hanceville Industrial Development Board and many town business proprietors.

Nolan Bradford, leader of the Hanceville Industrial Development Board, shared, “We are happy to have the Antique Tractor and Engine Show here in Hanceville every year. The show gets bigger and better every year, and we look forward to its continued success.”

The show is also a state show for the International Harvester Collectors Alabama Chapter 23.
