CULLMAN, Ala. – All seven county squads have been playing each other for the first half of the season to determine seeding for this year’s Cullman County Basketball Tournament and the brackets were finally filled out Wednesday afternoon. Local coaches met at the Cullman County Board of Education Central Office to discuss the brackets and necessary tiebreakers. The seeds for the tournament were based on each team’s record against county opponents.

In the varsity boys division, Good Hope earned the top seed with a 6-0 record and West Point claimed the second seed with a record of 4-2 but we had a three-way tie between Hanceville, Fairview and Cold Springs for the third seed. Since all three teams defeated each other this season, their records against the higher seeds was used as the tiebreaker. All three teams fell to the Raiders, but Cold Springs defeated West Point earlier in the season, earning the Eagles the third seed. The Bulldogs held the head to head victory over the Aggies and so Hanceville was able to claim the fourth seed, moving Fairview to the fifth seed. Vinemont and Holly Pond each finished with the same record as well but the Eagles’ head to head win over the Broncos earlier in the season makes them the sixth seed and puts Holly Pond at seventh.

Things were a little less complicated on the varsity girls side. Cold Springs’ head to head victory over West Point gave the Lady Eagles the top seed over the Lady Warriors and the Fairview Lady Aggies earned the third seed with a 4-2 record. Good Hope then filled in at the fourth seed and the Holly Pond Lady Broncos claimed the fifth seed with their win over Hanceville earlier in the season, making the Lady Bulldogs the sixth seed. The Vinemont Lady Eagles closed out the bracket as the seventh seed.

The Good Hope Raiders took the first seed in the JV Boys bracket as well, edging out West Point with a head to head win. Fairview earned the third seed with a record of 4-2 and Vinemont’s head to head win over Hanceville gave the Eagles the fourth seed ahead of the Bulldogs. Holly Pond finished as the sixth seed with a 1-5 record and Cold Springs rounds out the bracket as the seventh seed.

We have just six teams in the JV Girls division this year, led by 5-0 West Point as the top seed. Good Hope earned the second seed with a 4-1 record and Holly Pond landed in third after finishing 3-2. The Cold Springs Lady Eagles finished just behind the Lady Broncos to take the fourth seed, Fairview claimed the tournament’s fifth seed and the Vinemont Lady Eagles are the sixth seed.

The 2020 Cullman County Basketball Tournament will begin Jan. 18 at Tom Drake Coliseum at Wallace State Community College. Admission will be $7.00
