CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies on Tuesday arrested Cathel Monroe Westmoreland, 53, of Battleground after a traffic stop on County Road 1212 in which 46 grams of methamphetamine were allegedly found.

The CCSO said in a media release a deputy was on patrol early Tuesday morning and conducted a traffic stop after the deputy observed the driver commit a traffic violation. The deputy confirmed Westmoreland’s driver’s license information with dispatch and confirmed Westmoreland had a warrant with the Winston County Sheriff’s Office.

After placing Westmoreland under arrest on the active warrant, CCSO deputies conducted a search of his vehicle and allegedly located approximately 46 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies also allegedly found pills, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

“I am glad we were able to arrest this suspect and seize this meth before it was distributed into our community,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.  “I would also like to point out this arrest was made after midnight and during the early morning hours, which shows that bad guys don’t care what time it is, they will still sell drugs, commit thefts and commit other crimes, and I am thankful for our deputies who are out on patrol for arresting this suspect.”

Westmoreland was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Westmoreland is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
