CULLMAN, Ala. – With the threat of inclement weather arriving in the latter half of the week, the Cullman County EMA is encouraging residents to sign up for the new Cullman County Notification System. Director Tim Sartin says the system will function similar to a weather radio, with residents able to choose what kinds of notifications they receive and when they receive them. People who sign up to receive notifications will receive their alerts in the form of phone voice messages, text alerts and emails.

The Cullman County Commission website (http://www.co.cullman.al.us/) has links to the informational flyer as well as two different ways for residents to sign up listed under their announcements. Those who wish to receive alerts can do so by visiting https://entry.inspironlogistics.com/cullman_al/wens.cfm or by texting “CULLMANALERT” to 69310 for more information.

The sign-up webpage requires respondents to provide their Cullman County address and the phone numbers and email addresses to which they would like to receive alerts. The types of alerts they can then choose to receive include:

  • Municipal alerts (community events, information and emergency services for the incorporated municipalities of Cullman County)
  • Road and traffic alerts
  • NOAA weather warnings (civil danger, extreme heat or cold, flood, freeze, ice storm, winter storm and radiological hazard)
  • NOAA weather watches (flood, severe thunderstorm, tornado and winter storm)

Recipients can choose whether to receive alerts 24/7 or only between 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. All users are automatically registered for 24/7 severe thunderstorm, tornado, hazmat and shelter in place warnings, but can opt out of receiving these messages. Users can also choose to receive alerts from specific Cullman County Offices such as the EMA, CARTS, the Commission on Aging, Sheriff’s Office or Parks and Recreation.

The notification service is free for all users, and the subscription can be cancelled at any time.
