House fire in Jones Chapel claims 1; 3 others injured

JONES CHAPEL – A house fire early this morning at 159 County Road 1089 in the Jones Chapel community has tragically left one person dead and three others hospitalized with injuries.

Martha McBrayer, 45, of Jones Chapel was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick.

First responders from Jones Chapel, Battleground, Sardis and West Point were called out this morning shortly after 6 a.m. with reports of a house fire with someone possibly trapped inside. Logan and Cullman first responders later joined the scene, along with a bevy of others in an attempt to help. The Red Cross was also on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the state fire marshal.
