CULLMAN – An inmate at the Cullman County Detention Center was found deceased during the early morning hours of Friday Sept. 28, according to a media release from the Cullman County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found Sandra Duke Shikle, 52, of Cullman, at approximately 4:15 a.m., the release said. Deputies began to render medical aid immediately, administering CPR and calling for emergency medical personnel.

A spokesperson said the CCSO is following protocol and has requested the State Bureau of Investigation lead the investigation. He said no foul play is suspected.

Shikle’s body was sent to Huntsville for autopsy, confirmed Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick.

Shikle was arrested in 2016, charged with 25 counts of theft from her Dodge City employer.
