ADDISON, Ala. – The Meek High School Band and the Winston County Chittlin Eater’s Association are presenting the 63rd annual Chittlin Supper at the Meek Elementary School Gym on Saturday, April 2from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. This year, the Supper will feature buck dancing, singing, a hog calling competition, the Chittlin King and Queen and a political forum. Chittlins, made from the small intestines of pigs, may not be for everyone, so grilled chicken will also be served with coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni & cheese, cracklin’ cornbread and the traditional candy corn. Plates are $8 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and under.

Meek Elementary teacher and organizer Renea Adair stated, “The Chittlin Eater’s Association is a group of people who actually want to eat chittlins. The Chittlin Eater’s Association Facebook page had over 700 views last week.” The group includes many Meek band members and teachers, but Adair continued, “There are also other people from all over the state and Mississippi and Tennessee that come to this every year just to eat these chittlins.”

The supper is an annual fundraiser for the Meek High School band, so the band members will set up the tables and chairs in the gym and help to prepare the food. The band and band boosters clean and cut the chittlins on an early Saturday morning every year before the supper. The chittlins are boiled, pressure cooked and prepared to be breaded and fried the day of the supper. The band members will also be serving food and waiting tables the day of the supper.

With this year being a political year, the association expects to have an even larger crowd than usual because many visitors come especially for the political forum. Political figures can pay for a speaking time slot for $100 for 5 minutes. They can also purchase advertisements to be placed on the annual Chittlin Supper T-shirts with prices varying depending on the placement and font of the advertisement. To purchase an advertisement, organizations can contact band director Zach Cleghorn by calling Meek High School at 205-384-5825 or messaging the Winston County Chittlin Eater’s Association Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/winstoncountychittlineaters.

In addition to the annual supper, this year a Shrimp and Crawfish lunch will be available from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in front of Meek High School, and a new spring market will be set up with vendors in the MHS Gym from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. To sign up as a vendor, email meekholidaymarket@gmail.com. Booth rental is $30 for a 10×10 space.
