CULLMAN, Ala. – The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s first ever Elite 100 Basketball Showcase will be here in June and there will be 10 local players participating in the inaugural event. The AHSAA Central Board of Control approved a boys and girls summer showcase at a January board meeting and set the date for June 22n. The boys will play at Hoover High School and the girls will play at Spain Park High School.

Good Hope’s Cole Maddox was selected as one of the top 100 players for the boy’s team after a stellar junior season and nine local players earned a spot on the girl’s roster.

The reigning state champions, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles are sending Toni West and the 2A Girls Player of the Year Elizabeth Hill after their seasons helped lift Cold Springs to a state title. Cullman’s AK Eastman and Hannah Hoffman made the top 100 after standout seasons, three Lady Warriors, Mackenzie Carter, Lexi Shadix and Miriam Oldacre were selected after helping lead West Point to a county crown in 2019 and a pair of Lady Bulldogs from Hanceville made the cut as well. Despite her season being cut short to due to an injury, Cassidy Campbell earned a spot in the showcase along with her teammate Kelly Pickett who finished her junior season with third team All-State honors.

After the showcases were approved earlier in the year, AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese said, “We are always excited to provide opportunities for our student-athletes to showcase their talents.”

Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association Jamie Lee is excited for the opportunities the event will be able to provide players and coaches alike.

“The showcase is a result of a combined effort of the NCAA, NFHS and member state high school associations,” Lee said. “Due to the new NCAA (basketball) recruiting changes, the AHSAA will do our part to provide a quality event for the high school players in our state. Last November, a group of coaches from around the state met at the AHSAA office to discuss the new rules and what we could do to take advantage of the new changes. In that meeting, it was decided we would host a showcase for the top 100 players in our state. The one-day event will be open to college coaches, at all levels.”

The accolades keep coming after a basketball season full of standout performers and elite teams in Cullman County and these showcases will be a great chance for these players to get some attention and roll into next season with even more confidence.
