HANCEVILLE, Ala. – A Logan man is behind bars, charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and first-degree possession of marijuana, following a bust conducted by the Hanceville Police Department and Morgan County Drug Task Force.

HPD Assistant Chief Adam Hadder said the case, which has been in the works for at least two months, is ongoing, with more charges possibly coming. Right now, though, Calvin Edmond, 23, is incarcerated in the Cullman County Detention Center and will be facing charges in Morgan County when he is released, said Hadder.

“There’s a lot of marijuana in Hanceville,” said Hadder. “Maybe it’s because it’s a college town. We’ve arrested several for possession, and we started looking at where it was coming from.”

Hadder said the investigation led to several houses, some in Cullman County and some in Morgan County.

Search warrants were executed at multiple residences in both counties on Tuesday. Altogether, the agencies netted more than 30 guns, more than $30,000 in cash and approximately 15 pounds of marijuana. Hadder said the main residence in Cullman County is located at 850 County Road 939 in Logan.

“The investigation is ongoing,” said Hadder. “There will be warrants on other people. When he (Edmond) gets out of jail here, he will go to Morgan County. There may even be federal charges. ALEA (the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) got this guy last year with $36,000 and guns. That case is pending in Cullman County.”

Hadder said he knows people will say, “It’s just pot,” but emphasized, “There is a lot of violence in this kind of weight, because of the amount of money involved.  A lot of money and a lot of guns.”
